For some women, the drug may not be necessary.
"I would not recommend it for women because the FDA approved it for the treatment of Erectile Dysfunction," Goldstein said. "The female libido may be an important factor that may be involved in the side effects."
The FDA approved Viagra for the treatment of an enlarged prostate and erectile dysfunction in 1998, though it doesn't say why it was approved for that use.
